Thousands protest against Netanyahu in Israel

Jerusalem: Thousands of Israeli protesters resumed their weekly protest against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Sunday outside their government residence in central Jerusalem. However, a new lockdown order has been implemented across the country which aims to curb the growing cases of coronavirus in the country. The three-week lockdown implemented last Friday included an exception allowing people to hold public demonstrations. Many protesters involved in the demonstration, however, seemed to ignore the social distance law. The protesters were asked to live in small groups. Thousands of people have taken part in demonstrations throughout the summer.

They demand that Netanyahu resign from his post as charges of corruption are being heard against him. More than 100 protesters took to the streets in Bunai Brak Nagar, located near Tel Aviv, Israel’s commercial center and lit garbage against prohibitions at public prayers. Demonstrations resumed hours after the end of the Jewish New Year holiday. The Netanyahu government implemented a new lockdown just hours before the holiday began. The first lockdown in Israel was implemented in March and April. Netanyahu has been charged with fraud, Khaitan in Amanat and accepting bribes in three separate cases. The criminal trial against him started in June but he refused to step down and dismissed the charges against him. So far, more than 1,80,000 cases of corona virus have been reported in Israel and more than 1,200 patients have died.
