Terrorists attack oil company convoy in Pakistan

Karachi: Militants targeted a convoy of oil and gas workers in Pakistan’s troubled southwestern province of Balochistan, killing 14 people, including seven soldiers. The convoy was under the protection of paramilitary forces. According to Radio Pakistan, Prime Minister Imran Khan has condemned the attack. The attack took place on Thursday on the employees of the Government Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) in the Oramara town of Gwadar district.

The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the media arm of the Pakistan Army, confirmed the incident and said militants were also damaged in the shootout during the attack. Seven soldiers of the Frontier Corps (FC) and seven private security guards were killed in this attack. A top police officer in Gwadar said, “The militants attacked the convoy from the mountains near Oramara on the Balochistan-Hub-Karachi coastal highway.” There was heavy firing from both sides during the incident. This convoy was returning from Gwadar to Karachi. “

He said that this attack has been done by plotting and informed the terrorists about the convoy going to Karachi. They were waiting for the convoy. Other FC personnel were able to secure the convoy. Gwadar Bandar is important in the main development projects of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and officials of government institutions and foreign workers work here under heavy security.

No banned separatist organization, terrorist organization or any other group has claimed responsibility for this attack. According to Radio Pakistan’s news, Prime Minister Imran Khan has condemned the attack and sought a report on it. Khan has expressed condolences to the bereaved families.

In 2015, under Beijing’s Belt and Road trade and infrastructure scheme, China turned Gwadar into the deepest seaport in the world. The coastal town in Balochistan is now a hub of Chinese investment in Pakistan.
There is a heavy military presence in Gwadar and along the coastal belt in Balochistan, which links the port with a network of highways and railways.
This is the deadliest attack on the Pakistani military this year. In June, the Baloch Liberation Army, which is also affiliated with BRAS, carried out an attack on Pakistan’s largest stock exchange in Karachi, killing five people.
