Russia begins exercises with nuclear submarines

Moscow: Russian nuclear submarines began the exercise by landing in the Barents Sea on Tuesday. During this exercise, mobile missile launchers were also seen moving in the snow-covered Siberian region. The exercises are being carried out after President Vladimir Putin ordered his country’s nuclear forces to be on high alert over escalating tensions with the West following the attack on Ukraine.

Russia’s Northern Fleet said in a statement that several of its nuclear submarines were involved in the exercise, aimed at training them to move military equipment in adverse conditions.

The Defense Ministry said in a statement that a unit of the Strategic Missile Forces has deployed intercontinental destroyer missile launchers in the forests of the Irkutsk province of Eastern Siberia.

The Russian military, however, did not confirm whether the exercises were related to Putin’s alert on Sunday in the wake of the Ukraine war.
