London: Cristiano Ronaldo and Harry Kane set new records on Thursday and led their team to victory in the qualifying matches of the 2024 European Football Championship. Portugal’s Ronaldo is already the highest international goalscorer in men’s football and has now set a new record for playing in most international matches.

Cristiano Ronaldo made this record during Portugal’s 4–0 win against Lichtenstein. This was his 197th international match. Earlier, Ronaldo and Kuwait’s Bader Al Mutawa had a joint record of playing 196 matches. In this match, Ronaldo converted a penalty in the second half to bring his total number of international goals to 120. Meanwhile, Kane has become the highest goalscorer for England.

He converted a first-half penalty during England’s 2–1 win over Italy. It was his 54th goal at the international level, one more than Wayne Rooney. Euro 2024 will be held in Germany with qualifying matches starting three months after the World Cup ends.
