Moscow: Russian President Vladimir Putin will be ruling over Russia till 2036 as the Russian people voted overwhelmingly for constitutional changes that reset the clock on the longtime Russian leader’s tenure to zero, even as critics said the result was manipulated on an industrial scale.

Official results were published on Thursday, after 99.9 percent of ballots had been counted, which showed that the former KGB officer who has ruled Russia for more than 20 years as president or prime minister had won the right to run for two more six-year terms after the current one ends in 2024, an Aljazeera report says.

That means Putin who is now 67, could rule until he is 83 years old.
