London: Britain’s Home Minister Priti Patel on Sunday promised to make the biggest changes in the asylum-seeking system in Britain in several decades. The Indian-origin minister said that he will be firm and fair to the real applicants and will be dealt with strongly against illegal migrants. The minister said at the Conservative Party’s conference that the current system is fundamentally broken and she is busy finalizing the draft of a bill to be introduced next year for a complete reform in it.

According to ‘Fundamentally broken’, in 2019, there were 35,566 applications for asylum in the UK, much less than the 84,000 applications received in 2002. The issue of migrants entering the UK by illegal routes via the English Channel has been in the news for several weeks. At the same time, the opposition Labor Party has criticized the government’s move for not showing compassion and compassion on this issue.
