Rome: Pope Francis vows to free the Catholic Church from sexual harassment and prays for victims of sexual harassment by former Cardinal Theodore McCarrick.

On Tuesday, the Vatican released a detailed report on his (McCarrick’s) sexual misconduct. Francis ended his weekly address Wednesday, recalling a report released the previous day on the “painful case” of a former high-ranking American cardinal.

“I once again express my sympathy for the victims of any persecution and the church’s determination to eradicate this evil,” Francis said. Then he kept silent for a while.

The Vatican report accuses many bishops, cardinals and various popes of denying evidence of McCarrick’s misconduct in the 1990s. The report accuses McCarrick of appointing an archbishop to Washington in 2000 and appointing him a cardinal, even after approving an investigation into St. John Paul II. The investigation found that McCarrick had sex with the disciples.

On Wednesday, however, Francis praised John Paul. He said that Wednesday is the symbol of Poland’s Independence Day. He quoted John Paul in which he told the youth what Azad really means.
