New Delhi: The ambassadors of Russia and Belarus have not been invited to the annual Nobel Prize distribution ceremony in Stockholm due to the war in Ukraine. The Nobel Foundation, which organizes these prestigious awards, usually invites ambassadors stationed in Sweden to the annual awards ceremony. The Nobel Prize distribution ceremony is held every year on 10 December. “Due to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the Nobel Foundation has decided not to invite the ambassadors of Russia and Belarus to the Nobel Prize ceremony in Stockholm,” the Nobel Foundation said in a statement.
According to the foundation, leaders of all parties in the Swedish parliament will be invited except the anti-immigration ‘Sweden Democrats. Anti-immigration Sweden Democrats’ have recently tried to distance themselves from far-right groups. It has emerged as the country’s second-largest political party and a close ally of the new centrist-right government, securing more than 20 percent of the vote in Sweden’s September 11 election. According to the Nobel Foundation, “we see no reasonable reason to reconsider our previous decision to oust the Sweden Democrats. The Nobel Prize is based on respect for science, culture, humanism, and internationalism.
The Nobel Prize distribution ceremony will be held on 10 December. The day marks the death anniversary of the prize’s founder, Alfred Nobel, born in 1896.
