Major train accident in China, two coaches of bullet train derailed

China: A high-speed train derailed on Saturday due to a landslide in southwest China’s Guizhou province. The train driver died in this accident, while several passengers were injured. According to the news of the state-run China Daily, two coaches of bullet train D2809 going from China’s southwestern Guiyang province to the southern province of Guangzhou derailed due to a sudden landslide at Rongjiang station. The train driver died in this accident.

According to the Global Times news, two coaches of bullet train D2809 from Guiyang to Guangzhou derailed at a station in Guizhou due to a landslide at 10.30 am on Saturday. Later, the driver of the train died while seven passengers sustained injuries. According to reports, the seventh and eighth coaches of the bullet train derailed at the entrance of the Yuezhai Tunnel.

All the injured passengers were taken to a local hospital and another 136 passengers were shifted to a safe place. Rescue work is going on at the spot and the cause of the accident is being investigated. According to the news, Rongjiang Station is located in Guizhou’s Rongjiang County. It is a Class III station managed by the Chengdu Bureau of Chinese Railways. Its construction started in December 2013 and on 26 December 2014, rail operations officially started here.
