Leaders from many countries will join ceremony organized on Bangladesh’s 50th Independence Day

Dhaka: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Nepal, Sri Lanka will attain the ceremony later this month, at celebrations to mark Bangladesh’s 50 years of independence from Pakistan. Many world leaders, including the heads of Bhutan and Maldives governments, will participate. Various celebrations are to be organized from March 17 to 27 on the 50th anniversary of the country’s independence from Pakistan after the liberation struggle of Bangladesh in 1971. The 50th anniversary of independence and the birth centenary of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman will be celebrated simultaneously.

The Chief Information Officer of the Bangladesh Government, Surath Kumar Sarkar told the media that Prime Minister Modi and the heads of Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, and the Maldives will be among the distinguished foreign guests attending separate events. Maldives President Ibrahim Mohammad Solih will be the first top foreign dignitary to arrive on a three-day visit on 17 March. Then there is Sri Lankan Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa who will come to Dhaka on 19 March on a two-day visit. Nepal’s President Bidya Devi Bhandari will be in Dhaka on a two-day visit from 22 March, while Bhutanese Prime Minister Lotay Tshering will be in the country from 24 March to 25 March.

Prime Minister Modi will arrive on a two-day visit on 26 March and will attend the main Independence Day celebrations. The occasion will also mark the completion of 50 years of Bangladesh-India diplomatic relations. The government said that foreign dignitaries will also visit the Bangabandhu Museum on the occasion of the birth centenary of the Father of the Nation. Bangladesh had planned to organize grand celebrations to mark 50 years of independence and to mark the birth centenary of Bangabandhu, but due to the Corona virus epidemic, it had to change its plan.
