Beijing: Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Friday suggested that China and India keep their differences on the border issue at a “due place” in bilateral ties, saying that the two countries’ relationship should remain in the right direction. This is the first visit by a high-ranking Chinese official since the Ladakh standoff began in May 2020.

Official sources in New Delhi said that in the first major diplomatic meeting between India and China in nearly two years, Wang and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar discussed the geopolitical turmoil caused by the standoff in eastern Ladakh and the crisis in Ukraine. Sources said that before the talks with Jaishankar, Wang met National Security Advisor Doval and had extensive talks on the border dispute. Significantly, India and China are holding high-level military talks to resolve the issue in the points of confrontation in eastern Ladakh. After the talks, both sides have already withdrawn their troops from some confrontation points.
