Kathmandu: India has handed over two modern trains to Nepal, which will run from mid-December between Jayanagar in Bihar and Kurtha in Dhanusha district. This will be the first major line (broad gauge) rail service in this Himalayan nation. The officials gave this information on Saturday. The Konkan Railway (Konkan Railway) on Friday handed over two modern Diesel-Electric Multiple Unit (DMUC) (DMUC) trains to Nepal Railways for the Jayanagar-Kurtha major line.

These trains have been constructed by the Integrated Rail Cart Factory, Chennai with modern facilities and latest AC-AC propulsion technology. Indian technicians and Nepal railway employees were welcomed at various places when trains arrived in Nepal from India on Friday.

Thousands of people gathered to see the new trains despite the Corona Virus epidemic. There are over 60,000 cases of Kovid-19 in Nepal, while 390 people have died. According to Indian Embassy sources, train operations from Kurtha to Jayanagar will benefit citizens of both countries, covering a distance of 35 km.

According to the Director General of Nepal Railway Company, Guru Bhattarai, trial operations of the new trains on the tracks of the big line started from Friday, which was completed last year. However, according to senior divisional engineer Devendra Shah, the border is unlikely to open soon due to the Kovid-19 pandemic, so train services will not start immediately and trains will be parked at Nepal railway station in Jayanagar for maintenance and safety. .

Engineer Binod Ojha of Nepal Railway Company said, “Regular operations of trains are expected to start around the Ram-Janaki wedding festival in mid-December.”
