Islamabad: Pakistan’s Prime Minister Imran Khan has called for a ban on hateful content on Facebook. Imran Khan wrote a letter to Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg asking for a ban on Islamophobic content on social media platforms. At the moment, there is no response from Facebook. Imran Khan said that just as Facebook banned the questioning and criticism of the Holocaust, so should content related to Islamophobia. The government of Pakistan and Imran Khan have shared their letter on Twitter.

In the letter, Imran wrote, “I would like to draw your attention to the growing cases of Islamophobia in the world. Hatred towards Islam is growing all over the world through social media and especially Facebook. ‘ In his letter, Imran referred to Hitler’s Holocaust against Jews and praised Facebook’s ban on related content. In the last part of his letter, Imran Khan demanded from Mark Zuckerberg that Facebook ban the language of growing hatred against Muslims on social media. Imran has written that hate messages should be completely banned.

Poison spewed against India
The letter reads, “I would like to draw your attention to the growing Islamophobia that is promoting hatred, extremism, and violence all over the world and this is happening especially through social media platforms, including Facebook.” He cited the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), the NRC, and the Tablighi Jamaat case in which a community was blamed for the growing cases of covid in India. The letter said, “The killing of Muslims and blaming Muslims for the coronavirus, along with anti-Muslim laws and measures like the CAA-NRC, reflects Islamophobia in India.” ‘Atrocities’ continue in a country like India. Khan said that all this reflects discrimination and prejudice which will ‘promote extremism’.

Allegations were made against the macros
Earlier on Sunday, Imran Khan had accused French President Emmanuel Macron of attacking Islam. Imran had attacked Macron for criticizing Islam and defending those who showed cartoons of the Prophet Mohammad. Imran Khan tweeted, “It is unfortunate that they (macros) have chosen the path of promoting Islamophobia only then they attacked Islam instead of attacking terrorists. Terrorist, whether he is a Muslim, a white supremacist or a Nazi. ‘
