Niamey (Niger): At least 137 people were killed by motorcycle-riding gunmen in villages near the turbulent border of Southwestern Niger bordering Mali. The government termed it as the deadliest violence in recent times. Government spokesman Abdurrahman Zakaria confirmed the attack on Sunday on Monday.

The constitutional court of Niger also confirmed Mohammad Bajum’s victory in the election on the same day. The elections in Niger were held in February. Baum will be the new President of the country. He will take over as President on April 2. It is noteworthy that in January, there were attacks in Tonkambangau and Jarumdare villages in the west of the country, killing at least 100 people. On that day, Niger had announced to hold a presidential election on 21 February.

At least 66 people were killed in the attack that took place less than a week ago. No terrorist organization has claimed responsibility for the recent attacks in Niger.
