Paris: French news broadcaster BFM TV has said a 32-year-old journalist was killed in shelling while covering an evacuation operation in eastern Ukraine. BFM TV said its journalist Friedrich Leclerc Imhof was killed while covering a humanitarian operation in an armored vehicle near the town of Svyerodonetsk in the Donbas region. There is a fierce battle going on between the Ukrainian army and Russian troops in this area.

The journalist was a citizen of France and had been working for the channel for the past six years. French President Emmanuel Macron tweeted his condolences to the journalist Imhof and his family.

Macron said in a tweet that Imhof was in Ukraine to show the reality of the war. He said that he was the victim of the attack in the midst of the bombardment of the Russian army during the evacuation of the people. French Foreign Minister Catherine Colonna described the journalist’s death in the attack as “extremely sad”.

“France demands that a transparent investigation be launched as soon as possible to shed light on the circumstances of this tragedy,” he said. Earlier, Luhansk Region Governor Sarhei Haidai informed about the journalist’s death in the attack via Telegram post. He said Russian troops attacked the armored vehicle through which people were being evacuated.
