JAKARTA: At least 14 people were killed and dozens injured in a massive fire at a fuel storage depot in the Indonesian capital on Friday. The officers provided this information.

Officials said thousands of residents living in nearby areas were forced to leave their homes after the fire spread to nearby areas. The fuel storage depot, operated by state oil and gas company Pertamina, is located near a densely populated area in the Tanah Merah area in North Jakarta. It supplies 25 percent of Indonesia’s fuel needs.

At least 180 firefighters and 37 fire engines are working to douse the blaze in the surrounding area, fire officials said. Army chief General Dudung Abdurchaman, who visited the scene, said at least 14 people had been killed and 42 had been hospitalized, some with severe burns.
