Washington: Outgoing President Donald Trump said on Friday that he would not attend the swearing-in ceremony of the country’s newly elected President Joe Biden’s Swearing Ceremony on January 20. Trump said this after promising to ensure a “smooth, orderly and uninterrupted” transfer of power. “I am telling people who asked me about this that I will not attend the swearing-in ceremony on January 20,” Trump tweeted. Trump, who claimed a “false” claim of victory for several weeks in the US election on November 3, was not expected to attend the ceremony.

The outgoing US President Donald Trump on Wednesday finally condemned the violence by his supporters in the Capitol Building (US Parliament House), saying that he did not represent America. Trump, breathless, also vowed to ensure the orderly, uninterrupted and smooth transfer of power to the newly elected President Joe Biden. A day earlier, Trump had called on his supporters to turn to the Capitol, where the crowd forcibly entered. A joint committee of parliament said in a statement that the swearing-in ceremony would be on the ‘West Front’ of the Capitol as planned.

US media reports state that tight security arrangements will be made during the swearing-in ceremony in the wake of the attack on the Capitol Building (US Parliament House). During this time the number of guests will be limited and Biden has appealed to people not to attend due to Corona virus. The White House released Trump’s video, in which Trump appears to be saying, “Like all American people, I am shocked and saddened by the violence, chaos, and violence.” I immediately deployed the National Guard and the law enforcement federal agency to protect the building and drive out the intruders. ” He said that those entering the Capitol have defiled the temple of democracy in America. He said, “People involved in violence and destructive activities do not represent our country. Those who break the law will have to bear the brunt of it. We have just gone through an election and the sentiments of the people are on the rise but now our anger has to cool down and peace will be restored. ” Thousands of Trump supporters attacked the Washington DC Capitol (US Parliament House) on Wednesday and also clashed with police. Four people lost their lives in this. Facing pressure from members of the Republican Party, Trump also accepted the election results amid fears of impeachment proceedings and pledged for a smooth transfer of power to Biden. Biden will be sworn in as the 46th President of the US on 20 January.

Amid violence and chaos, the US parliament formally confirmed the election of Biden and Harris in their joint session on Thursday and the electoral college’s vote was also approved. As a result of the incident at the Capitol, several senior officials resigned from Wednesday evening to Thursday, while opposition Democrat members began renewed efforts to impeach Trump. The top leadership of the Democratic Party has requested Vice President Mike Pence to implement the 25th Amendment of the US Constitution to remove President Donald Trump from office because of “inciting rebellion”.
