Seoul: South Korea recorded the highest number of deaths in the last month due to coronavirus infection on Tuesday. In view of the increasing cases of coronavirus infection, US health officials have advised their citizens not to travel there. South Korea is currently facing a horrific wave of epidemics due to the Omicron nature of the coronavirus.

The Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency (KDCA) said on Tuesday that 61 patients of Covid-19 died in the country in the last 24 hours. Earlier on January 19, a record 74 patients died due to infection. A month ago, cases were increasing in the country due to the delta nature of the coronavirus, whereas now the cases of infection are increasing due to Omicron. According to the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency, 57,177 new cases of coronavirus infection were reported in the country in the last 24 hours. The number of hospitalized patients may increase in the next few weeks and the death toll is also expected to increase.

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has issued a level IV travel advisory for South Korea and advised people not to travel there. The US has issued an advisory that only fully vaccinated people travel to South Korea if absolutely necessary.
