Corona explosion in Germany

Berlin: A new record has been set in Germany for the increase in Corona cases. Here, the highest number of new coronavirus infections have been reported since the outbreak of the corona epidemic. Germany’s Disease Control Agency gave this information on Thursday. The Robert Koch Institute, or RKI, said 33,949 new cases were reported in the last 24 hours, up from 28,037 daily cases a week ago. The previous record was 33,777 new cases on December 18, 2020. The country’s Federal Health Minister Jens Spahn, meeting with the health ministers of 16 states, has drawn up a strategy to deal with the coronavirus infection.

Health Minister Jens Spahn and health ministers from 16 states discussed how to limit the spread of the coronavirus in the winter as intensive care units in hospitals begin to refill. Along with this, infection in children is also increasing rapidly. RKI reported 165 deaths on Thursday, up from 126 a week ago. The total death toll in Germany from COVID-19 infection has risen to 96,192. Senior health officials have repeatedly appealed to German residents that those who have not yet been vaccinated should get vaccinated immediately.

Official figures show that nearly two-thirds of Germany’s 83 million population has completed their first round of vaccination. About 16.2 million people 12 or older still live without vaccination here – including more than 3.2 million in their 60s. Although officials agreed in August to make booster shots available to nursing home residents and staff over 60 in August, only over 2 million have been administered so far. Germany has not made coronavirus vaccination mandatory for any professional group, unlike some of its European counterparts. But the regional governments have imposed some restrictions. They have imposed some restrictions on indoor events. At the same time, some rules have been relaxed for those who have been vaccinated, while those who have recently got corona or who have been corona tested, and the rules have been tightened for those people.

After several outbreaks have been reported in senior citizen homes (old age homes) in the recent past, there is increasing pressure to implement mandatory tests in nursing homes, etc. More than a dozen residents have died due to infection here. The head of the family doctors’ union, Ulrich Weigeldt, on Thursday called for mandatory coronavirus vaccination for all employees working in nursing homes or hospitals. Weigelt explained that no non-vaccinated person, be it a professional or a visitor, should have contact with such vulnerable groups (old and sick). This applies to senior citizen homes and nursing homes as well as intensive care units.
