Islamabad: At least 20 people were burnt to death in a collision between a passenger bus and an oil tanker in Pakistan’s Punjab province on Tuesday. Rescue personnel gave this information. This is the second major road accident in the province in three days. The incident took place on a ‘motorway’ in Multan, about 350 km from Lahore, police said.

A spokesperson of the emergency service ‘Rescue 1122’ said, ’20 people were killed in a collision between a Lahore-Karachi-bound bus and an oil tanker. After the collision, the bus caught fire, due to which the passengers were caught on fire. His condition is said to be serious.

He said, “The bodies of some of the people who lost their lives in the accident were completely burnt and their identity is yet to be ascertained. Their bodies will be handed over to the family for DNA testing. Both the vehicles came under fire after the accident, causing a lot of trouble for the rescue and fire brigade teams in carrying out the rescue operation, he said.

Punjab Chief Minister Pervez Elahi expressed grief over the accident and directed the concerned health authorities to provide better treatment to the injured. He has also asked the administration to help the families of those who lost their lives in the accident, in identifying the dead. At least 13 people were killed in a collision between a truck and a bus in Pakistan’s Punjab province on Saturday.
