According to a report in Hindustan Times, Insikt Group of a company named Recorded Future has found that suspected Chinese groups are targeting several Indian institutions in 2020 and 2021. The name of this group is being told as RedFoxtrot. Earlier, the company had informed that China is targeting India’s vital infrastructure and port sector in the energy sector. The group was then identified as RedEcho. The headquarter of this company is in America.
A person from Recorded Future’s Insikt Group told the newspaper, “Especially in India, we have identified a group that has successfully targeted two telecom entities, three defense contractors, and several additional governments and private sector entities in the past six months.” is making.’ Insikt’s representative told Hindustan Times, “Notably, these activities took place at a time when there was a lot of tension between India and China.” It is being told that the affected companies have been informed about this.
According to the report, Recorded Future, in a blog post, stated that these findings were based on analysis of network traffic, footprints of malware used by the attackers, domain registration records, and transmitting data. The report quoted a company representative as saying, “We believe that RedFoxtrot is conducting cyber espionage operations to obtain military and security information on the basis of persistent targeting of institutions in the region.”
According to the report, analysis of Recorded Future has revealed that RedFoxtrot’s wires are linked to Unit 69010 of the People’s Liberation Army. It is being said that its headquarters can be in Urumqi, Xinjian. In March 2021, the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (Cert-IN) said that they had received indications that Chinese-linked cybermen were conducting espionage operations against the Indian transport sector.
