Businessman of Indian origin elected vice-president in Britain

London: A merchant of Indian origin in the UK has been elected as the Deputy of the Borough of Southwark for the second time. Sunil Chopra was the Mayor of the London Borough of Southwark in 2014–15 and the Deputy Mayor in 2013–14. He is the first person of Indian origin to hold these important positions in this borough (administrative section). Born in New Delhi, Chopra was the general secretary of the Indian Overseas Congress.

He is the first and only Indian councilor to be elected to the London Borough of Southwark Council. There are only two percent people of Indian origin in this council. He has been living in London for the last 40 years and is active in local community functions.

On his election, Chopra said on Wednesday, “I am really proud to be an Indian. It is a great honor not only for me and my family but for the entire Indian community. I will continue to work with this community locally and internationally. “
