Beijing: China on Thursday denied allegations that US diplomats were subjected to an anal examination of Covid-19. There were reports from Washington that some of its personnel had to go through this process. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian said at a regular press conference that “US diplomats living in China were never asked to undergo anal swab testing.”

A US State Department spokesman said Washington was “committed to ensuring the safety and dignity of its diplomats and their families in accordance with the American Vienna Convention as well as other relevant diplomatic laws.”

The Washington Post reported last week that US personnel told the State Department that they had been anal tested. This procedure is adopted in China because it is more accurate than a nose or mouth swab test.
