New Delhi: China reported on Saturday that 59,938 people have died of Covid-19 in the country since the beginning of December. The move comes after criticism from the World Health Organization (WHO) over the government’s failure to release data on the status of the pandemic. According to the news in the official media, the National Health Commission said on Saturday that 59,938 people died due to Kovid-19 in the country’s hospitals from December 8 to January 12.

Senior Health Commission official Jiao Yahui said that 5,503 people died due to respiratory problems and 54,435 people died due to other diseases along with Covid-19. The National Health Commission of China said that these deaths occurred in hospitals. Due to this, there is also a possibility that people would have died in their homes as well.

The Chinese government stopped reporting Covid-19 cases and deaths in early December after abruptly lifting anti-epidemic measures. The World Health Organization had asked China to give more information about this.

China removed all rules related to Covid
Let us tell you that since the sudden withdrawal of the strict zero Kovid policy in China, the cases of infection are increasing. China announced last month that it was lifting COVID-19 restrictions on nucleic acid tests and quarantines for international travelers. There were many demonstrations across the country against the Zero Covid policy. The protesters also demanded the resignation of President Xi Jinping.

The Chinese government on Saturday ordered the release of several people detained in connection with incidents related to the coronavirus.

The announcement to lift all quarantine rules is being welcomed in the country but its timing has raised concerns in other countries as the move coincides with the annual spring festival in the country on January 22. During which millions of Chinese citizens travel around the world.

The World Health Organization (WHO) said that China is trying to downplay the outbreak of coronavirus in the country.
