UN peacekeepers injured in attack in Mali

Dakar, Senegal: On Wednesday, 28 Togo peacekeepers were injured in an attack on a temporary United Nations base in Mali. UN spokesman Stephen Dujarric said the United Nations strongly condemned the attack in Mali. He said the peacekeeping mission in Mali is among the “most dangerous” missions.

Dujarik said that so far this year five peacekeepers have died in this country and 46 others have been injured. The UN mission said that on Wednesday, its temporary mission was fired at Kerena, near Douentza. So far no organization or person has claimed responsibility for this attack, but al-Qaeda and Islamic State militants have often targeted UN peacekeepers and soldiers. Mission spokesman Olivier Saldago said that the United Nations Special Envoy to Mali and Mahamat Saleh Annadfi, the head of the peacekeeping mission, strongly condemned the attack.
