After warning to appear, the three executives agreed to appear before the committee digitally. The party’s opposition has intensified since the New York Times reported on Facebook and Twitter that it was leaning towards the Republican Party. It is believed that in addition to questioning the CEOs of companies, the senators will also discuss proposed amendments to the law to fund online expression. Critics of both sides say the proposal would give companies a chance to shirk their responsibility to provide decent content.

Roger Wicker, chairman of the Committee on Commercial Affairs and a Republican senator from Missouri, said, “Social media platforms have long used Section 230 of the Security Act to censor content that they do not trust.”
