BCCI’s Reward Announcement

The BCCI confirmed on Thursday that the ₹58 crore prize will be distributed among the players, coaching and support staff, and members of the selection committee led by Ajit Agarkar. BCCI President Roger Binny lauded the team’s back-to-back ICC title wins, stating, “Winning two consecutive ICC trophies is a testament to Team India’s dedication and excellence. This reward is a tribute to their hard work and commitment.”

This announcement follows the ₹125 crore reward given to the Indian team after their T20 World Cup victory in June 2024, highlighting BCCI’s continued recognition of exceptional performances on the global stage.

India’s Dominant Campaign

India’s journey to the Champions Trophy title was nothing short of spectacular. The team remained unbeaten throughout the tournament, registering commanding victories over Bangladesh (six wickets), Pakistan (six wickets), and New Zealand (44 runs) in the group stage. In the semi-final, they overcame Australia by four wickets before defeating New Zealand again in a thrilling final.

In the championship match, India chased down a target of 252 with an over to spare. Captain Rohit Sharma led from the front with a composed knock of 76 runs off 83 balls, supported by crucial contributions from Shreyas Iyer (48), KL Rahul (34), and Ravindra Jadeja, who hit the winning boundary.

Historic Achievement

This victory ended India’s 12-year wait for an ICC ODI title since their last Champions Trophy win under MS Dhoni in 2013. It also marked India’s third Champions Trophy triumph (2002, 2013, and 2025), making them the most successful team in the tournament’s history. Additionally, this was India’s second ICC trophy within a year, following their T20 World Cup win in June 2024.

BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia praised the team’s consistency, saying, “This victory has justified India’s top ranking in white-ball cricket. The players’ dedication has set a new benchmark for Indian cricket.”

Impact on Indian Cricket

The ₹58 crore reward underscores BCCI’s commitment to fostering excellence in cricket. Vice-President Rajeev Shukla remarked that such rewards inspire aspiring cricketers across the country while Treasurer Prabhtej Bhatia emphasized that this success reflects India’s robust cricketing ecosystem.

With two ICC trophies secured within a year and a strong foundation laid for future success, Team India continues to cement its position as a powerhouse in international cricket. As fans celebrate this monumental achievement, all eyes are now on how India will build on this momentum heading into future tournaments.
