London: Interim results of the third phase of testing of the Covid-19 vaccine being developed by Oxford University were presented on Monday, which was found to be ‘effective’ in preventing infection. The vaccine is being developed with the help of AstraZeneca.

If you look at the collective statistics of double dose, the effect of vaccine was 70.4 percent. In two different doses, the effect was 90 percent once and 62 percent the other time. Early signs suggest that the vaccine may reduce the spread of the virus in cases of asymptomatic infection.

“These findings show that we have an effective vaccine that will save many lives,” said Professor Andrew Pollard, director of the Oxford Vaccine Group and lead researcher on the trial. Encouragingly, a single dose of vaccine can be up to 90 percent effective and, if used, can vaccinate more people with a planned supply.

Sarah Gilbert, Professor of Immunology at the University of Oxford, said, “Today’s announcement brings us closer to a time when we can use vaccines to end the devastation caused by Kovid-19. . ” “We will continue to provide detailed information to regulators,” he said. It is an honor to be a part of this multinational effort that will benefit the whole world. ”

The study is being conducted on more than 24,000 participants from different ethnic and geographical groups in the UK, Brazil and South Africa, according to the university. Further trials are also underway in India, the US, Kenya and Japan and a total of 60,000 participants could be included in the trial by the end of this year.
