New Delhi: Like every year, this time also World Mosquito Day 2021 is being celebrated on 20 August. This day is celebrated in the memory of British doctor Sir Ronald Ross. Dr. Ross discovered in 1897 that female mosquitoes transmit malaria to humans.

Actually, the theme of World Mosquito Day 2021 is Reaching the Zero Malaria Target. Mosquitoes spread disease to humans. They are also responsible for millions of deaths every year. At the same time, according to the World Health Organization, malaria causes an estimated 219 million cases globally. Due to this, about four lakh deaths occur every year. Dengue is responsible for about 96 million cases and about forty thousand deaths every year.

There is a sharp increase in mosquito-borne diseases every year during the monsoons. Mosquitoes breed here and there in frozen water. In addition, mosquitoes breed in warm and humid climates, increasing their numbers rapidly. That’s why protection from mosquitoes, especially in monsoons, is essential.
