With Facebook’s Artificial Intelligence, offensive content will soon be curbed

Social media company Facebook is resorting to Artificial Intelligence AI (AI) to expedite action on harmful and objectionable content. The company uses this technology to prioritize the content in question.

Facebook has over 1.82 billion daily active users worldwide. In the past, the company has had to deal with a lot of hate content in India. While India is one of its largest markets.

Ryan Barnes, Facebook’s product manager (community integrity), said the company was using AI to prioritize the content in question. Prioritizing in this way is important to help its more than 15,000 reviewers.

He said that such priority is important for four reasons like not all the content that causes harm is equal, some return rules are complicated, people do not always complain about harmful content and complaints are not always true.

Talking to reporters at the virtual event, he said that the company has now started looking beyond relying on user complaints. Now he has started seeking technical help in this process. He said that now with the help of this technology, 95 percent of such content is caught by the company even before anyone complains.
