New Delhi: The Ministry of Information Technology (IT) on Tuesday asked META-owned WhatsApp to share the reasons for the disruption in the services of the platform. Sources gave this information. The services of the social media platform WhatsApp were disrupted for nearly two hours on Tuesday afternoon. Due to the sudden shutdown of services, a large number of users from India to the UK could not send any texts and videos to each other for almost two hours.

Sources said that the IT ministry has asked the company to share the reasons behind the shutdown of WhatsApp. In this regard, the company did not respond to the email sent to WhatsApp till the news was made. In a statement issued late Tuesday night, WhatsApp said, “Services have been disrupted due to a technical snag.”

According to Downdetector, which monitors incidents of disruptions to services, WhatsApp was not working for many users in many regions. WhatsApp users in major cities including Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Kolkata were affected by the disruption in services. Downdetector reported that around 29,000 users have reported disruption.
