Storms and Rainfall

New Delhi: New Delhi has experienced a significant shift in weather following the dust storm that swept through the city and its neighboring regions last Friday night. Residents woke up to a cooler atmosphere and witnessed light showers in various parts of the capital this morning. The Meteorological Department has escalated its alert level to yellow, signaling a strong likelihood of storms and heavy rainfall in the Delhi-National Capital Region (NCR) today.

Extended Weather Alert for Neighboring States
The weather change is not confined to Delhi NCR alone. The Meteorological Department forecasts that Haryana, Chandigarh, Punjab, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh will also feel the impact. These states are expected to experience light rain accompanied by storms in several areas. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts a rainy spell over the next four days, affecting regions in Central, Eastern, and Southern India.

IMD’s Forecast and Precautions
The IMD had previously forecasted cloudy skies for Friday, with potential dust storms, light rain, and isolated hailstorms. Wind speeds could reach 60 to 70 kilometers per hour in Delhi during the night. Kuldeep Srivastava, the head of the Regional Meteorological Center and a noted scientist, informed PTI that the active western disturbance is the cause behind the expected light rain in the national capital late Friday night.

Temperature and Humidity Readings
The maximum temperature in Delhi on Friday was recorded at 39 degrees Celsius, which aligns with the seasonal norms for this time of year. The relative humidity levels fluctuated between 47 to 64 percent throughout the day. The weather office anticipates rain with thunderstorms on Saturday, with maximum and minimum temperatures likely ranging from 39 to 29 degrees Celsius respectively.
