New Delhi: Twitter on Wednesday first added the label ‘official’ to the verified handles of several leaders including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Home Minister Amit Shah. Then after some time, it was removed. Twitter had also added the same ‘label’ on the handles of Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, and some other ministers. The company said that this feature has been added so that the difference between a blue account and a verified account can be understood.
It is being told that after making the changes, the official was visible under the verified Twitter hander. Although the company has not officially launched it yet. The company nor Elon Musk himself has shared any information about this tag.
Verified account changes
The changes announced by Twitter for verified accounts were recently announced. The company said that the ‘official’ label has been given to select verified accounts, including major media organizations and governments. Twitter executive Esther Crawford said many people have asked how she would differentiate between Twitter Blue subscribers and ‘officially’ verified accounts with a blue checkmark. This is the reason why we are introducing the ‘official’ label for some accounts.
He added that not all accounts that are already verified will get the ‘official’ label and the label is not available for purchase. Accounts that receive it include government accounts, commercial companies, business partners, major media outlets, publishers, and certain public figures. Regarding the new ‘Twitter Blue’, Crawford said that the new feature does not include ID verification. “It is an opt-in, paid subscription with a blue checkmark and access to select features. We will continue to use it to maintain interoperability between accounts.
