New Delhi: A committee of Parliament has sought a response from this micro-blogging unit in the matter of temporary closure of Twitter accounts of Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad and senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor. Sources gave this information on Tuesday. The Standing Committee on Information Technology Affairs has sent a letter to Twitter seeking its reply within two days. Senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor is the head of this committee.

Sources said Tharoor had directed the committee to seek a response from Twitter on the ban on Prasad and his account. Actually, Prasad had informed me about the temporary closure of his account by tweeting a few days ago. He said, “Friends! Something very unique happened today. Twitter blocked access to my account for about an hour based on an alleged violation of the United States Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA), and they later allowed me to use the account.

Retweeting Prasad’s tweet, Tharoor, head of the Standing Committee on Information Technology Affairs, had said, “Ravi Ji, the same thing happened to me. Clearly, the DMCA is being hyperactive.”

According to the Congress MP, Twitter deleted one of his tweets as it related a copyright issue related to the song ‘Rasputin’ from the once-famous vocal group ‘Boney M’. Tharoor said his account was restarted after a thorough process. He had said that clarification would be sought from Twitter regarding this matter.
