New Delhi: On March 28 and 29, power sector employees across the country have decided to go on strike in protest against the privatization policies of the Narendra Modi government at the Centre. The decision of this nationwide strike was taken in the meeting of the National Coordination Committee of Electricity Employees and Engineers (NCCOEEE) on Wednesday.

Electricity workers of all states will also participate in this two-day nationwide strike on the call of labor organizations across the country. Shailendra Dubey, President of All India Power Engineers Federation said that the electricity employees of all the states will also join the strike in protest against the policy of privatization of the Central Government.

Here are the main demands
Shailendra Dubey said that there is anger among the employees due to the privatization policies of the Center. The main demands of the electricity employees and engineers are that the Electricity (Amendment) Bill 2021 should be withdrawn and all kinds of privatization processes should be stopped. The decision to privatize electricity in the Union Territories, especially the profit-making Chandigarh, Dadra Nagar Haveli, Daman Diu, and Puducherry, should be immediately canceled and all the electricity employees appointed after the dissolution of the electricity boards should be given the benefit of the old pension scheme.

Bank employees will also be on strike
State Bank of India (SBI) employees will join the strike from March 28-29. Employees’ unions of various banks have called for a two-day strike on March 28-29. This may affect bank services. The strike has been called in protest against the privatization of public sector banks and the Bank Law Amendment Bill 2021.
