New Delhi: There has been a new twist in the admission of women in the army under the National Defense Academy (NDA). The central government has sought more time from the Supreme Court to implement the new policies. Also, the court has been told that women will not be able to appear in the examination this year. The top court has refused to accept this point of the government. The court has asked the government to take the examination of women. The exam is to be held in November this year.

The Center has told the Apex Court that they will be able to include women in the NDA only by May next year. However, the court has not accepted the demand of the government and asked women to be included in the examination. Along with this, the court has also refused to give 6 months more time to the government to implement the policies. On Tuesday itself, the government had said that women would be able to get admission through the NDA.

The Supreme Court said that the army does everything immediately. We had already ordered that women should take the exam in November. The court said that it is not right to tell women to wait for 6 more months. The government was told that you take the exam, after that, you will see how many women appear. The court said that we hope the government will do it.

What happened in court on Tuesday
The central government had told the Supreme Court that admission to women in the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force would be started through the prestigious NDA, for which the government would complete the necessary arrangements by May 2022. The Ministry of Defense has started preparations to meet the deadline of May 2022. This reply of the Central Government has been filed in the Supreme Court.

Earlier, the court had asked the central government to file an affidavit and give a timeline, so that it is clear by when women will be able to take admission in NDA i.e. National Defense Academy. Public interest litigation was filed in the Supreme Court in which, citing equality, it was demanded that women should also get admission in the NDA.

Initially, the central government had opposed this, but after the strong stand of the court, the central government had to take a policy decision that now women will also get admission in NDA. After passing 12th in NDA, admission is done under strict examination. The cadets here are then prepared for the officer rank in the army.
