New Delhi: The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on Wednesday extended the ban on low-cost airline SpiceJet for only 50 percent of departures till October 29, 2022. The DGCA said in a statement that there has been a significant reduction in the number of security incidents.

Earlier, the DGCA on July 27 had ordered SpiceJet to operate a maximum of 50 percent of flights. The order was for eight weeks. The decision was taken due to frequent lapses in the airline’s flights.

Orders will remain in force on 29 October 2022
The DGCA in its order said, “…the review shows that there has been a significant reduction in security-related incidents. However, taking additional precautions, the Competent Authority has decided that the restrictions imposed in the Order dated 27th July, 2022 shall remain in force till the end of the Summer Program (which will run till 29th October 2022).”

Order to operate 50 percent
Notably, the DGCA in July had ordered SpiceJet to operate a maximum of 50 percent of its approved summer flights for eight weeks in the wake of several incidents of technical snags. The DGCA had issued show cause notices to the airline in connection with at least eight incidents of technical snags in the aircraft of this airline.
