New Delhi: Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) President Sourav Ganguly and Secretary Jay Shah have got a big relief from the Supreme Court. Now both of them will continue to be the bosses of the board for the next three years as well. The petition was filed about three years ago regarding changes in the constitution of BCCI. On which the Supreme Court has given its decision.
The Supreme Court has allowed BCCI to amend its constitution. In this change, the old rules of the tenure and cooling-off period of board officers will be relaxed. Now Sourav Ganguly and Jay Shah can remain in BCCI or State Cricket Association for 6 consecutive years.
Significantly, an appeal was made by the BCCI to the court that their officials should be allowed to continue for two consecutive terms. One of these terms may also be associated with the State Association. After which the Supreme Court has now accepted this appeal of the board. In such a situation, now that a BCCI official completes two consecutive terms in one post, then he will have to keep a cooling period of 3 years. Whereas in the state association this cooling period will be of two years.
Let us tell you that this matter of BCCI was stuck in the Supreme Court for almost three years. After which the top court has given its final verdict in this matter on Wednesday, 14 September. The court has accepted the appeal of the BCCI and has put its stamp on the amendments proposed by the board regarding tenure.
