Ayodhya: Padmashree Mohammed Sharif alias Sharif Chacha, Maqbool of Ayodhya, who has been cremating the unclaimed dead bodies for the last 27 years, has been invited to attend the Ram temple foundation stone ceremony on Wednesday. Sharif’s son Mohammad Sagir told on Tuesday that his father, about 82 years old, received an invitation from the Sri Ramjanmabhoomi Tirtha Kshetra Trust in the afternoon on Tuesday.

However, he said that his father has been suffering due to kidney disease for some time and he is not able to walk properly, so he will be able to attend the program, there is doubt. Sagir said that Sharif Chacha’s ultrasound is being done and after seeing his condition it will be decided whether he will be able to attend the program or not. Mohammad Sharif, a bicycle mechanic by profession, cremates unclaimed dead bodies in the district for the last 27 years.

According to Sagir, his father cremated the unclaimed dead bodies of people belonging to all religions, including Hindu, Muslim, according to his faith. Till now he has cremated around 25,000 unclaimed dead bodies. For this great service to humanity, Mohammad Sharif was awarded the Padma Shri, the country’s fourth highest civilian honor, in January this year.
