Resolution of Kashmir issue necessary for regional peace and stability: Bajwa

Islamabad: Pakistan Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa on Sunday said that the resolution of the Kashmir issue is important for regional peace and stability. Gen Bajwa made this remark during a meeting with Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud. Saud had met Bajwa on the sidelines of the 17th session of foreign ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation on the humanitarian situation in Afghanistan.

The Pakistan Army said in a statement that the two discussed issues of common interest, regional security, the current situation in Afghanistan, and bilateral defense ties. According to a statement, General Bajwa also emphasized that “peaceful resolution of the Kashmir dispute is essential for stability in South Asia”. It also reiterated that Pakistan seeks cordial relations with all its neighbors in view of regional peace and prosperity.

Indo-Pak relations deteriorated in August 2019 after India announced the withdrawal of special powers to Jammu and Kashmir and bifurcation of the state into two union territories. India has said that the issue related to Article 370 of the Indian Constitution was completely an internal matter of the country.

India has advised Pakistan to accept the reality and stop all anti-India propaganda. India has also always told Pakistan that it desires normal relations with Islamabad in an environment free from terrorism and violence.

General Bajwa thanked the Saudi leadership for convening an extraordinary session of the OIC Council of Ministers. He said the conference was extremely important to guide international efforts and save Afghanistan from a security and humanitarian crisis.
