Bhubaneswar: Vande Bharat Express got damaged in Bhadrak, Odisha. Actually, overhead wires were damaged due to strong storms and lightning. During this, the power supply remained disrupted. Due to this, Vande Bharat Express was stopped at Vaitarani bridge between Dulkhapatna-Manjuri Road station.

Bhadrak station manager Purna Chandra Sahoo said, “The front glass and side windows of the driver’s cabin were damaged due to the storm. The power supply was also cut off. There is no information about any casualty.

According to officials, tree branches fell on the train, shattering its windshield. The branches of the tree got stuck in the pantograph of the train, which disrupted the train movement, they said. Officials said that the incident took place between Vaitarani Road and Mandhogi Road stations at around 5.45 pm. The train was going from Puri to Howrah.

The Howrah-Puri-Howrah Vande Bharat Express was flagged off by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday and began commercial operations on Saturday. A South Eastern Railway official said that no one was injured in the incident. He told that the technical staff of the railway is inspecting the train stuck due to rain and storm.

A diesel engine will bring the train to Mandvi Road station as the pantograph is entangled with the overhead wire, the official said. After this, the train will go through its engine from Manggi Road station to the destination.
