New Delhi: Professor Pradeep Kumar Joshi was appointed as the new chairman of the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) on Friday. He has held this position in place of Arvind Saxena. UPSC conducts Civil Services Examination for appointments to important posts including bureaucrats and diplomats of India. Joshi was still a member of the commission.
Joshi, who was the chairman of the Public Service Commissions of Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh, became a member of UPSC in May 2015. According to an official statement, the outgoing president of UPSC, Arvind Saxena, administered the oath of office and secrecy. Joshi joined as a member of the Commission on 12 May 2015. According to the statement issued by UPSC, before joining the commission, he was the chairman of Chhattisgarh Public Service Commission and Madhya Pradesh Public Service Commission. According to the statement, he also served as the director of the National Institute of Educational Planning and Administration (NIEPA).
Joshi’s term will be till 12 May 2021
“In his illustrious academic career, Professor Joshi taught for over 28 years at the post-graduation level and held several important positions in various policy-making, academic and administrative bodies,” the statement said. Joshi as the chairman of UPSC The term will be till 12 May 2021. After the appointment of Joshi as the chairman, the post of one member in the UPSC has now become vacant.
At present, Bhim Sen Bassi, Air Marshal AS Bhonsle (retired), Sujata Mehta, Manoj Soni, Smita Nagaraj, M Satyavati, Bharat Bhushan Vyas, TCA Anand and Rajiv Nayan Chaubey are the other members of the UPSC. The commission conducts the annual civil service examination in three phases for important services including the Indian Administrative Service, the Indian Police Service and the Indian Foreign Service.
