New Delhi: Phishing attacks are not uncommon on WhatsApp, but scammers become more active during the festive season. One such phishing link is spreading rapidly, which lures users with gifts, but if you open this link then your personal and financial data may be at risk.

It is reported that the link with Rediroff.ru can infect not only Windows PCs but also iOS and Android smartphones. The scam has reportedly affected a large number of users on WhatsApp.

According to a CNBC report, cyber attackers first send WhatsApp users with a message a link with rediroff.ru in the URL. The message promises rewards and expensive gifts, but the gifts require users to take a questionable survey. It was reported that once the users have filled the questionnaire, they are redirected to a different website.

Users were asked to fill in important information including name, age, address, bank information, and other personal data. The scammers then steal the data and sell it on the dark web. Cyber attackers can also install some unwanted applications on users’ devices. Attackers can also use the information to send spam emails to the contacts of a user whose description has been compromised.

Phishing attacks will never stop, but it is important for users to be careful and not believe everything they read online. Users should first and foremost check the authenticity of the link. If the link contains Rediroff.ru in the URL, they should ignore the link and remove it.

An authorized company will not send you a message claiming to be a gift. Even if this happens, the link and message content will be properly generated. However, in suspicious messages, you will always find that the grammar of the message is incorrect. Still, if you inadvertently click on a link, you should scan your device for any unwanted malware or unwanted applications.

Even if you find an application that doesn’t seem realistic to you, you should uninstall the app immediately. The festive season is seen as a perfect occasion to deceive innocent users, who would most believe in getting the gift.
