It is said that Shri Krishna used to celebrate Holi with colors in Mathura. He used to play Holi with his friends in Vrindavan and Gokul, after which Holi came to be celebrated as the festival of colors.

On the next day after Holika Dahan, all seven types of Holi of Braj were played in the Banke Bihari temple. Falgun’s songs also came alive when the hydraulic pitcher rained color in the temple premises packed with devotees.
