New Delhi: Advocate Prashant Bhushan said on Monday that the nominal penalty of one rupee imposed on him by the Supreme Court in the contempt case does not mean that he has accepted the verdict and will file a petition for reconsideration. Bhushan’s two tweets were seen as contempt of court and the apex court imposed a notional fine of Rs.1/- Bhushan, who deposited the fine in the registry of the apex court, said that he has received contributions from many corners of the country to pay the fine and with such contribution such a “Truth Fund” (Satya Nidhi) will be created which helps those people with legal help. We have filed a writ petition that the process of appeal for punishment under contempt should be made. ” The lawyer also spoke on the arrest of Omar Khalid, an alumnus of Jawaharlal Nehru University for his alleged role in the Delhi riots, and said the government was using all means to stop criticism. The Supreme Court had imposed a notional penalty of one rupee on Bhushan, convicted of criminal contempt for tweeting derogatory to the judiciary. The court had said that Bhushan would have to deposit a fine of one rupee by September 15, and failing that, he would have to face imprisonment for three months and a ban on advocating for three years.
