New Delhi: There is good news for air passengers. Airline companies will no longer be able to charge a passenger extra for the issuance of a boarding pass at the check-in counter of the airport. The Ministry of Civil Aviation on Thursday ordered all airlines to put an immediate ban on it, saying it is against the rules to charge extra for boarding passes. It had come to the notice of the ministry that airlines charge an additional fee when passengers demand a boarding pass at the airport check-in counter.
In the current system, companies charge an additional Rs 200 for issuing boarding passes to passengers without doing web check-in. On Thursday, the ministry tweeted that it has come to the notice of the Ministry of Civil Aviation that airlines are charging extra for issuing boarding passes to passengers. This is absolutely wrong.
Told wrong by tweeting
The Ministry of Civil Aviation made a tweet in this regard on Thursday. The tweet read, “It has come to the notice of the Ministry of Civil Aviation that airlines are charging additional fees for issuance of boarding passes to passengers. This is not justified under the directions issued in accordance with the provisions of the Aviation Rules, 1937. After this tweet from the ministry, now all airline companies will have to follow this rule.
Ministry serious about disturbances
Several incidents of technical glitches in the aircraft of Indian airlines were also taken seriously by the Ministry of Civil Aviation. The civil Aviation Minister held a meeting on security issues with senior officials of his ministry and DGCA last Sunday. In the meeting, the minister took full details of these incidents from the officials in the last month. Scindia had told the officials that no compromise should be made with the safety of the passengers. After this meeting, the DGCA gave 10 days to the airline companies to find solutions and rectify the shortcomings.
