New Delhi: The Government of India has given permission to install CNG and LPG kits in BS-VI petrol and diesel vehicles. Till now, such a kit could be installed only in vehicles with BS-IV emission norms. Only a few cars in India come with a factory-fitted CNG kit. These include some models from Maruti Suzuki, Tata Motors, and Hyundai.
With the increase in the prices of petrol and diesel, the number of people installing CNG and auto LPG kits in cars is also increasing. This greatly reduces the cost of running the vehicles. Aftermarket companies are ahead in this business.
Less pollution on CNG
The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways said in a notification, “The Ministry has approved the installation of CNG and LPG kits in BS-VI petrol vehicles and replacement of diesel engines with CNG/LPG engines in case of BS-VI vehicles less than 3.5 tonne.” .’CNG is an environment-friendly fuel and will reduce the emission level of carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons and fumes, etc. as compared to petrol and diesel engines.
There is a shortage of CNG stations in the country
Besides being a cleaner fuel solution than petrol or diesel, CNG or auto LPG are much cheaper than fossil fuels. With the skyrocketing prices of petrol and diesel, the sale of CNG and Auto LPG has increased across the country. However, lack of availability of factory-fitted CNG cars and the lack of fueling stations for CNG or Auto LPG are some of the hurdles faced by the vehicle owners.
Maruti is at the forefront of factory-fitted CNG cars
Maruti Suzuki is strengthening its position in this segment amid bumper sales of CNG cars in India. Maruti has also launched the new Swift CNG in the market this week. Now Maruti Suzuki has a total of 10 CNG models in the CNG passenger car segment. Talking about CNG cars of Maruti, there are many popular cars including Best Selling WagonR CNG as well as Dzire CNG, Alto 800 CNG, Celerio CNG, Ertiga CNG, and Eco CNG.
