New Delhi: Harnaaz Sandhu from Punjab, who won the Miss Universe 2021 title, says she wants to create an environment in which fellow women feel comfortable expressing their concerns about health and hygiene. Sandhu, 21, who has acted in a few Punjabi films including “Yara Diyan Poo Baran”, and “Bai Ji Kuttange”, is hoping to make a mark not only in Hindi cinema but also in Hollywood. Both these films of Sandhu have been released in 2021.

On Monday, Sandhu became the third Indian to win the Miss Universe title. Before her, actress Sushmita Sen has crowned Miss Universe in 1994 and Lara Dutta in 2000. Sandhu got this title in the 70th edition of the beauty pageant held in Eilat, Israel.

Sandhu said that it is a big celebration for the entire country as an Indian has got a chance to wear this crown after 21 years. In a telephonic interview from Eilat, Israel, Sandhu said, “I feel very grateful and my heart is filled with great respect for all those who have shown their faith in me and showered me with so much love.

I want to use this platform to talk about issues that we should all be concerned about.” An inspiration for Sandhu is her mother and a gynecologist by profession, Ravinder Kaur Sandhu, who seeks to pave the way for women’s empowerment with a special focus on menstrual hygiene and breast cancer awareness. Sandhu says, “I advocate women empowerment along with menstrual hygiene. My mother is a gynecologist. Women should talk about their health.

In my community, women still feel uncomfortable talking about anything related to their bodies and their health.” She said, “That is why I am working prominently with various organizations regarding breast cancer surgery. It can be treated if detected on time. I will also talk about all the issues which are related to the Miss Universe organization. I would like to talk about various issues with the help of my mother.”
