New Delhi: Electricity demand in the country reached an all-time high and crossed 2 lakh MW on Wednesday. The demand for electricity has increased with the mercury rising due to delays in monsoon and easing of restrictions imposed to prevent coronavirus.

According to the latest data of the Ministry of Power, the maximum demand for power, ie maximum supply, reached 200,570 MW on Wednesday. Earlier, Tuesday’s peak power demand had reached a record 1,97,070 MW.

According to experts, the demand for electricity is increasing with the mercury rising in many states due to delays in monsoon and easing of restrictions imposed to prevent coronavirus. Last month, the peak power demand reached 191,510 MW on June 30.

This is 16 percent higher than 164,980 MW in June last year. In June 2019, the maximum demand for electricity reached 182,450 MW.
