New Delhi: Ever since the Gypsy was discontinued by Maruti Suzuki, everyone is waiting for the next SUV to take on the Mahindra Thar. Rumors have been going on for a long time that Jimny is going to come to India. Now recently the new 5-door Jimny has been spotted during testing in Europe. Suzuki may launch the Jimny for the global markets later this year. After this it is expected to come to India.

According to the report, Suzuki Jimny will be very big in size. It will now be 3,840 mm longer in length as compared to 3,470 mm on the short-wheelbase variant. Its wheelbase will also be more. The width and height of the SUV are likely to remain the same as the three-door model. Suzuki will also upgrade the powertrain of the long-wheelbase Jimny.

Design and Dimensions
The Jimny that has been seen during testing was largely hidden. Therefore, most of the designs are hidden. What is clear though, is the apparent presence of a second set of doors for the second row. You also get to see that along with the increased length of the car, there is also a new set of black alloys. At the front, the same type of grille and large round headlamps can be seen. At the rear too, the bumper seems to be the same unit as the current short-wheelbase Jimny and gets tail lamps on either side.

The engine will be powerful
Talking about its engine, Suzuki will use a 1.5-liter turbocharged petrol engine with hybrid technology. The earlier 1.5-liter naturally aspirated unit was discontinued in the UK as it failed to meet the emission norms. Though the test unit of the Jimny has been carefully covered in a black and white zebra patterned cover, there are many things that have come to the fore through the spy shots.
